Our Kentucky Fried Kitchen

Our kitchen is one of the best features of our home. It has two floor to ceiling windows that let in lots of light which makes the room so pleasant. We like spending time there.

Kurt likes to cook as much as I do, and the other weekend we made brunch together. I tried out donut muffins and Kurt cooked up a big batch of skillet boys. In college, Kurt created the culinary masterpiece known as the skillet boy. We ate it a lot. And it is amazing.

You may be thinking it looks disgusting. You are right. But it tastes like a beautiful mess of eggs, potatoes, peppers, cheese, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, and who knows what else.

The donut muffins were awesome and tasted even better the next day. We pawned some off on our neighbors and threw the rest away after a few days to save ourselves from overdosing. You can find the recipe here.

Okay well now I am hungry.

She Works Hard For The Money

We have some very exciting news, I am finally a working woman! I accepted a position as a stylist at Joseph's Salon starting March 6th. Joseph's is an Aveda salon that's been in the area for forty years. It has a fantastic reputation and I am thrilled to be part of their team.

It was nearly a two year journey to get to this point. I started at the Aveda Institute in April 2010 and graduated January 2011. We moved to Louisville where I completed my extra hours and first stage of the licensing exams in November 2011. Here we are in 2012 and ready for this new, incredibly exciting stage. Sometimes it has been really challenging to be patient, but God has guided us to great opportunities here in Louisville and we feel incredibly blessed.

*When I told Kurt I was going to share my exciting news here and asked what I should title the post, he sang "she works hard for the money".

Are We There Yet?

Last week's weather finally felt like winter. One week and we were over it.
It was making Bailey sad.

The sun is shining, the tulips from my valentine have opened up and the birds are singing.

So we are pretending it is Spring today.

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes

Yummy things have been happening around here. Unfortunately they are so yummy, I get too excited to eat them and forget to take an "after" picture most of the time.

I had our neighbors over for dinner to test out recipes for a new Junior League cookbook a few weeks ago and had some leftover ricotta and heavy cream. Just my luck I saw a recipe for Lemon Ricotta Pancakes on one of my favorite blogs Cupcakes & Cashmere. We will be making these again.

Recipe Found Here

I didn't have lemon curd, so I made whipped cream using the whipping cream and homemade vanilla extract (a Christmas gift from my amazing sister). Oh. My. Goodness. Homemade whipped cream will always be my preference now. So easy. So delicious.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Cherry Jube Heart Candies

We have been in the Valentine spirit for a little bit now, mostly because I wanted to buy some candy and if it was Valentine's Day themed then it felt more acceptable. I filled a little mason jar with these heart candies, and there must be a hole in the jar because somehow they keep disappearing.

It is a little bit of silly holiday from a Hallmark perspective; however, any reason to tell people you love them is a great one. We are celebrating by going to Lonnie's Hot Dogs (Kurt's been wanting to try it since we arrived here) then bowling and maybe even a movie, who knows we might get crazy!

Have a love filled day!

We're Still Alive!

These last few weeks have been busy. Where have we been lately you ask? Well...

Kurt finished finals from last semester and is caught up on this semester. Which means he is just studying all day every day, instead of all day and night. I think he was starting to miss sleeping. He had some friends come down to the Lou for much needed drinking, karaoke bar-ing, more drinking, pizza eating. The essentials. He also joined a basketball league. He's got some new shoes and mad skills. Nothing can get in the way of his NBA dreams for too long.

I joined Junior League and started my community project, organizing a monthly self-esteem building night of fun for a small group of teen moms. I am also doing a gardening 101 class through Junior League. I've also been hitting the gym workin' on my fitness, doing yoga, and book clubbin'. Our next book is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and I am pretty stoked about it. AVM documents a real life family's decision to only eat locally produced food for a year and their experience.

It's exhausting being Bailey.

Happy (Belated) Birthday Susan!

Birthdays are always fun to celebrate, especially when the birthday girl is such a wonderful person. Unfortunately we didn't get to celebrate with Susan on her actual birthday, but we were thinking about her lots! Wishing you your best year yet!
